muhammara is a syrian roasted red pepper dip traditionally made of pepper, walnuts, olive oil, breadcrumbs + pomegranate molasses. in an effort to use ingredients on hand, i started making this dip without the latter, and it still tastes incredible. i brought it to one family get-together and due to high demand, it’s become my go-to appetizer for family gatherings. it’s unique and pairs incredibly with ..well, anything. i’d suggest serving with feta, simple crackers and some veggies.
MUHAMMARA RECIPE serves 4-6
- 3 roasted red peppers
- 1 tbsp tahini
- 1 cup walnuts (or pecans, if you have those instead)
- 1-2 cloves garlic
- 1/2 tbsp cumin
- greek yogurt and breadcrumbs are optional for desired consistency. (i prefer 1-2 spoonfuls of breadcrumbs in mine)
- process the above ingredients in a food processor. season with salt & pepper to taste.
